Do His will
For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:38
Jesus came to do the will of His Father in heaven. This is just one of the times that He talked about it during His ministry. It didn’t seem to be a struggle for Him at all, but there were times that He spent in prayer getting that plan from God. It wasn’t something He just knew the whole time. Sure, He knew some of it. He knew that He came to save people from the sin of the world. He talked many times about what was going to happen at the cross and that He would come back after three days. But the day-to-day stuff, He mostly got day to day. It is one of the reasons that the scripture tells us many times that Jesus want off by Himself to pray or spent nights in prayer. He was getting the upcoming plan. He didn’t make things up as He went and He didn’t deviate to His own ideas and agenda. He plainly told people that the only reason He was here was to do His Father’s will.
Now, how does that relate to us today? I’m glad you asked! As God’s family and the representatives of our Father here in the world today, we are no less responsible to do God’s will than Jesus was. We are here for this time to be continuing the ministry of Jesus. He did all the heavy lifting and conquered death and the enemy of God. He made us more than conquerors so that we could live the life of victory and follow the plan He has for today. Yes, we know the plan is that we are to tell people the message of salvation and to lead other into the Kingdom of God, but the day to day will for our lives is something that we get as we check in with our Father and get the plan for today.
There is a process to doing that and the biggest part is to follow the example of Jesus and get away by yourself to praise and worship Him regularly. I’m not talking about going to God each day with a list of requests and needs, I’m talking about pressing in and asking: What is your will for my life today? What would you have me to accomplish before the sun goes down again. Take time to listen inside for any thing the Holy Spirit may be whispering or showing your heart. Ask Him to make the path plain and clear and to give you a knowing of what you are assigned each day. He isn’t trying to keep it a secret from you, but He does want to spend time with you and teach you all that is in His heart for you. It is not a hard thing and I promise you that it will be the greatest blessing of every one of your days when you purpose to do the will of your Father who sent you.
Today I want to encourage you to go to Him this morning for the plan. What is the will of the Father for your life today? What is the purpose you have been given breath? Take some time with you loving Father this morning and ask. If you don’t come out of that time of worship with any direction, check in during the day to receive. You may have to go back to the last instruction that He gave that you haven’t done yet, but once you get on track, it will come easier day by day. Determine to do your part of His plan each day and make your life count for all eternity!
Today’s scripture reading: John 6:22-40
22 On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone—
23 however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks—
24 when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.
37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
