The Helper

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26

Have you ever needed help with a problem or situation you were facing?  What about a teacher to teach you things that are coming up in life or someone who helps you remember important things when you need them?  That’s what the Holy Spirit does.  He is our helper, and He helps in whatever way we need right now.  Later on, He will help us out in whatever we are facing down the road.

It is true and we know it is because in today’s passage, Jesus told the disciples that He was leaving, and God was going to be sending the Holy Spirit to be with them all the time.  He told them what they can expect the Holy Spirit of God to do once He was sent to live in people.  At this time, Jesus said the Holy Spirit is the helper and He was being sent by the Father in the power of Jesus’ name.  Jesus also told them that day that the Holy Spirit is a teacher and would teach them all things.  That’s pretty impressive.  Lastly, Jesus told the disciples at that time that the Holy Spirit would bring to their remembrances all things that Jesus had told them.  That was what they needed, and it actually happened.  We know it happened because later on they were able to write the gospel accounts of Jesus life.

The Holy Spirit is still helping us today.  When we get saved and we receive the Holy Spirit, He comes to live inside of us to help us be successful in the mission that God has assigned for us to fulfill.  He still teaches us all things as we sit and position ourselves to learn, and He brings to our remembrance the things that Jesus and His Father have said.

This is great news and as wonderful as it is, there is so much more that the Holy Spirit does once He is living inside.  The scriptures say He is:

  1. The Counselor
  2. Wisdom
  3. Sprit of Truth
  4. The Comforter
  5. He will live with you forever (Vs. 16)
  6. Guide
  7. Teacher

And there are many more names that He goes by.  To put is simply, the Holy Spirit has exactly what you need at just the time that you need it.  He is available to you and every aspect of His character He will share with you.  It is up to you to receive Him into your life and acknowledge Him in all your ways.

Today I want to encourage you to get help.  Walk out your days with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Let Him guide you into all truth.  Seek His wisdom in all things.  Let the Holy Spirit be your Counselor and when you have pain or grief, ask Him to comfort you.  He is available to all people, but only a few follow His leading.  Make the decision today to trust the Holy Spirit’s promptings.  Then you will know what is coming up and which decisions to make.

Today’s scripture reading: John 14:19-26

19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.

20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”

23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
