Come up Here

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”  Revelation 4:1

This is so exciting to me, a description of the things John saw in heaven during the visitation from Jesus.  At this point in the vision, Jesus turned His attention from the churches.  All through the rest of the book the church is not mentioned anymore.  This chapter started out with John seeing an open door to heaven.  Then he heard the trumpet sound, a voice calling him to “Come up” to see what is going to happen next.  Some day we will experience this same thing.  When Jesus comes back to get us, we will hear the shout of the arc angel and be called up to meet Him in the air!  A moment that I am truly looking forward to.  The very thought of it makes me smile!

As John walked through that door, he saw such splendor and majesty.  I am so thankful that he wrote it out the best he could, though I am sure it was beyond words or human comprehension.  John said the first thing he saw was the throne of God and One who sat on the throne.  He described colors and forms like jasper, sardius stone, rainbow, elders, robes, crowns, lighting and thundering.  The entire scene sounds like something none of us has ever experienced before.  Like being immediately in the presence of royalty and all the splendor of God’s greatness.  I can hardly wait until it is my turn to experience it.

It was almost 2 years ago when my mom went on to be there.  As I processed her passing, I became so overwhelmingly happy for her.  She served the Lord in ministry all her life and looked forward to the day when she would be with Him in all His glory.  Now that she has gone to be with Him, it makes my heart long for the time when I can be there too.  To see the grandeur of His majesty and to be in that place of complete love, peace and joy with no threat from the outside elements or forces. What a life that will be for all eternity.

One day we will all be together there, but until then, we are all together here and we have a job to do and a mission to complete.  So let’s join together and follow His lead to get our work here in this world done so that when the day we meet Him in the air comes, we are ready and watching for His appearance in the sky.

Today I want to encourage you as you read through this passage of John’s account, imagine what it will be like one day for you when you see this grand sight.  Consider what it will be like to be at home with Him and the beauty of His countenance.  Take time to talk with Him about it and ask the questions you have.  Then, make the decisions to complete, down to the last detail, every plan He has for you in this world and ask for His empowering grace to help you get your part done.

Today’s scripture reading: Revelation 4:1-5

1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”

2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne.

3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.

5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
