Plain and Clear

Lord, I have so many enemies! Lead me to do your will; make your way plain for me to follow.  Psalms 5:8

I have prayed a prayer like this for many years.  When I am not sure what is the right thing to do in a situation or when I need direction about a next step or an open door.  I thank my Father in heaven for making the plan plain and clear to me.  That it becomes so obvious that I cannot miss it.  Because I have made so many unwise decisions in my past based on circumstances surrounding me or just selfish desires, I do not want to ever do that again.  If I am face with a predicament or decision that I am not 100% confident of His direction, I begin to pray that He makes the way easy to see and places the desire in my heart to go that way.  Truthfully, up until this very moment I didn’t know there was actually a scripture that I had been praying all along.  I know that it was effective because He always shows me the way when I pray this way.

I know that it is no coincidence that this verse came up today of all days.  Like I said I have prayed if for years, but today I was praying with a friend who is going through a struggle right now.  Her story is similar to mine in that she wants to follow God so closely now.  I had encouraged her to Thank God that He makes His way plain and clear for her to follow so that she is assured to make the right choices coming up and even further down the road.

Chances are everyone reading this is dealing with something in life that they just don’t know quite the right way to handle.  I highly recommend praying this scripture over your situation and also preparing yourself to follow as soon as it is clear which way to go.  If you struggle once you know, it is okay. Simply begin to thank Him for His grace to empower you to do the right thing and go His way.  I promise you; you will never regret it and it will be an open door to the next wonderful blessings He has planned for your life.  Just keep following Him step by step and it will not take long for your confidence to become so strong that you know that you are completing the mission He designed for you before you were even born.

Today I want to encourage you if you are struggling with a decision in life and don’t know exactly the right choice to make, begin to pray this scripture over you situation.  If you are at a fork in the road and don’t know which path to follow, thank Him that He is leading you in the path of righteousness and that He is clearing the way for you.  Another translation says: Smooth out Your road in front of me, straight and level, so that I will know where to walk.  Thank Him for smoothing out the direction you should follow and that you know where to take the next step because it is straight and level. He is clearing the way for you, but it is not always automatic for you to follow.  You must stay closely tuned into His direction, so you don’t get distracted with the activities and pleasures of this life.  Only Then will you be able bask in the promise of verse 12 of this chapter that says: You, O Lord bless the godly and surround them with your shield of love.

Today’s scripture reading: Psalms 5

1 Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.

2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I will pray.

3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.

4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, nor shall evil dwell with You.

5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity.

6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue.

10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.

11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.

12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
