Put your trust in Him
In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? – Psalms 11:1
If I said to anyone of you reading this message that the world we live in is messed up, I don’t think anyone would question why I would make such a statement. No doubt, the dangers surrounding our everyday lives can be extremely frightening. With unexpected weather phenomenon or current sickness and diseases that might be going around, not to mention the violence that happens daily, it is easy to see why some people are just not able to cope. Many times, over the past several years I have said: “I don’t know how people go through life without knowing God and that He has a plan set in motion.” Honestly, I look to Him each day and trust Him for protection, for provision and for the grace I need to accomplish His plan for the day. I cannot even imagine living in this world without knowing my Father is with me to take me through life’s struggles.
I’m sure we all know people who are terrified of the things that could happen to them at any given time. They worry about getting sick or being hurt in some way. Some people are so afraid that they won’t even leave their homes because of the fear that something bad could happen. It is a sad thing to not know how to trust God to watch over and to keep you in all your ways. There are so many promised in His word about how He is watching over His people and even wants to be actively involved in their lives.
I love how Psalms chapter 11 starts. It states that I put my trust in the Lord so much that I would not even think of saying to my soul, you should run away and hide. Fly away to the mountain like a bird that takes refuge from predators. It goes on to say, yes, the wicked are out there and there are threats that exists in the world, but God is in His holy temple (which is the body of His people) and with His eyes He is looking and watching us.
This chapter even goes so far to say that life is a test to see if we will trust Him or try to figure things out on our own. He is watching us and when we call on Him, He always answers. He has a plan and a purpose and nothing or no one in this world can stop it! Glory to God!
When you renew your mind to the promises He gave in His word, you will no longer live and make your decisions based on fears and outward circumstances. Suddenly, you will trust Him to empower you to accomplish every great thing that He has put in your heart for this life. He will give you the boldness and the strength to share His love and provision with those who live in terror of things to come, and He will lead you to those who are ready to hear His message of love and salvation wherever you go.
Today I want to encourage you, no matter what is going on in your life and in the world around you, to put your trust in the Lord! Don’t run and hide from the unknown and treachery of the outside world. Instead, look to His word and promises and believe what He has said about leading you in the path of righteousness. Recognize that every day is a test and you have the choice to trust and follow Him or lean on your own limited understanding and fear. Realize that He is only a prayer away and is ready to rush in and rescue you from every scary thing you come up against.
Today’s scripture reading: Psalms 11
1 In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
2 For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
3 If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?
4 The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.
5 The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
