“The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.”Psalms 103:19

Psalm 103 is one of the scriptures I regularly speak over myself to encourage and strengthen my spirit. Recently, while quoting it again, something stirred in me when I reached verse 19:
“The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.”

It suddenly clicked. God’s Kingdom rules over everything. No matter what “kingdoms” exist in this world, whether foreign, national, or local, God’s Kingdom supersedes them all. While I’ve always known this truth, the revelation hit me in a fresh, profound way, especially in light of the current state of the world.

From the very beginning, God established His authority through divine laws and order.

  • Legally, He instituted structures like marriage, family, and government—foundational laws that work across every nation.
  • Spiritually, He designed a supernatural order that governs the unseen realm.
  • Eternally, He set decrees into motion that will never pass away.

Here’s the practical application: God’s ways reign over the entire world, but it’s up to us to line our lives up with them.

Just as I have rights and responsibilities as an American citizen, freedom of religion, speech, the right to bear arms, and protection under the law, those rights are only guaranteed when I follow the laws of the land. The same is true for the Kingdom of Heaven. When I live according to Kingdom principles, I’m entitled to Kingdom benefits. The Bible is the legal framework of God’s Kingdom. The more I study it, the more I understand how to live as a citizen of heaven.

In America, I can’t claim ignorance as an excuse to break the law. The same applies in the Kingdom of God. Just because I don’t know His ways doesn’t mean I’m exempt from them. God doesn’t adjust His Kingdom to fit my understanding. Instead, I must grow in knowledge of His Word to align my life with His will.

This Scripture reading in Deuteronomy 28 outlines the blessings that follow obedience to God’s commands, as well as the consequences of disobedience. These blessings and curses still play out in our lives today. We live in a fallen world where the effects of the curse are visible and growing. But as Kingdom citizens, we don’t have to submit to those outcomes. God’s Kingdom laws always overrule the world’s, every single time.

So here’s today’s encouragement:
Choose to submit to the rule of Heaven. Make it your mission to study God’s Word and identify His Kingdom ways. As you read scripture, take note of the blessings that follow obedience and the consequences of worldly living. Ask yourself: Am I living my life by God’s ways or the world’s ways?

Be an intentional citizens of Heaven, learning, living, and upholding the laws of the One whose throne is established forever.

Journal Prompt: Where in my life have I unknowingly lived by the world’s ways instead of God’s Kingdom principles? What is one area I can begin to realign today?
