Your call and election

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. 2 Peter 1:12

Because faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love supply us an abundant entrance into the everlasting kingdom of God, Peter says he will always keep reminding us to keep these truths.  So as not to become unfruitful in the knowledge of Christ Jesus, do not be shortsighted or forget that we were cleansed from old sins.  We are to be more diligent to make our call and election secure.  In that way we will never stumble.  He says as long as he is here in the world, he will keep reminding the church of these things to stir them up and he has written them down so they can remember even after he is gone.

I wonder if Peter knew that he would be talking to us here today through these same words?  Yet, they are as relevant today as they were when he first said them.  This admonishing can be incorporated into our lives today and we can be assured of the same results he promised back then.  To keep these steps of faith in mind and to live your life by them will ensure that you will never stumble.  That is a great promise.  As you become more diligent each day to make your call and elections sure, remember that you are the one that does it, not God.  You secure this call by following the progression laid out in verses 5-7.

Today I want to encourage you to consider what it means to make your call and election sure.  How can you have the assurance of your salvation and the plan that God has for you while you are here in this world?  If you do not know or are unsure of your salvation and the path God has for you, ask Him for a scripture to solidify within yourself these things.  You can also ask Him to speak something to your heart (backed by scripture) to assure you of your relationship with Him.  Make sure to write it down so you can refer back to if often. Then begin to walk out that call step by step as the Spirit of God leads you.

Today’s scripture reading: 2 Peter 1:12-15
