Weak made strong

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”  2 Corinthians 12:9

I know I spend a lot of time writing about our responsibility as believers to have faith and trust in the things God has promised.  I often write about doing our part, and believing God is faithful to do His.  However, today I want to talk about the weak times because I know we all have times when we come to the end of our rope.  I know there are times we feel like we can’t hold on to that promise any longer and I know there are even days when we just want to give up.  That’s what is so amazing about our God because He said in our weakness, He is strong.  His grace meets us right where we are and then picks us up and carries us to victory.  Hallelujah!!

In today’s reading, the Apostle Paul talks about a thorn in the flesh that was given to him.  It was a messenger of Satan sent to buffet and harass him wherever he went.  He was so frustrated by this evil force coming against him that he kept talking to God about it until finally he heard God say, “I have given you My grace, it’s there to make My strength perfect and complete in you in the midst of your weak moments.” (my translation)  Glory to God!  God’s strength covers us when we are weak!  This is priceless!   It’s like a grace blanket that we can hide under so God can wrap us up in His protection and complete the things He is doing in our heart and in our lives.

So, standing on the Word, speaking to the mountain, and seeking first the kingdom of God are what you can do when you are up against circumstances.  You take your stand and draw strength from God in the times when you are preparing for battle, but when the days come that you just don’t have anything left in you, God’s grace comes rushing in to take over!  He sees when you are lying wounded on the battlefield, picks you up, wraps His grace around you, and carries you to safety.   Then He goes in and fights in your place and brings you the victory!  Now that’s being more than a conqueror!  You can’t lose when you walk each day with Him!!

Today I want to encourage you to be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might, but if you are having a day that you just can’t seem to stand any more, get under the grace cover and let God be the strength in your weakness.  Reach out to God and let Him be your refuge and strength and a very present help in time of trouble! (Psalms 46:1)

Today’s scripture reading:  2 Corinthians 12:1-10

1 I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3 And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4 was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. 5 I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. 6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
