Even the demons believe

And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”  Matthew 8:29

In chapter 7 of Matthew Jesus told some “believers” that did works in His name to depart from Him and that He never knew them (see vs 23).  In the passage today, there are two demon possessed men that run to Jesus and the demons begin a conversation with Him.  They asked if He came to torment them before it was the appointed time.  This only happened after they acknowledged that He was the Son of God.  They never questioned who He was and they didn’t even wonder about it.  They knew who He was the moment He got out of the boat.

In James 2:19 the scripture says that the demons believe there is one God and they are afraid of Him, but that does not give them a saving relationship with Him.  No matter how much you believe and even talk about God or do great things in His name, that will not save you from the punishment of sin.  You must enter into a personal relationship with God, and walk with Him day to day through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus to cleanse you from the sin of this world.

It is frightening to me how many people believe in God and even try to please Him by being a good person.  And don’t get me wrong, your actions are important in this world, but the only action that can save you from an eternity of separation from God is inviting Jesus to come into your life to be your personal Savior. He is the only one that can open the door for you to have a relationship with God the Father.

God isn’t hard to access.  If fact He made it as easy for us as He possibly could.  He said:  Anyone who opens the door and invites Him in, He will come in and live there with them (Rev. 3:20).  He will walk through the storms and trials of life with you and He will be a personal guide to all who enter into that relationship with Him.

Today I want to encourage you to invite Jesus into your life if you have never done that before.  Enter into that personal relationship with God the Father through His provision of Jesus blood.  Then spend time with Him each day to grow that relationship and press into the love and direction He has for your life.  Pray this prayer today and start your new life with Him as your guide:

God in heaven, I know I’m a sinner and I need a Savior.  I want to turn away from my sinful life to the life You have planned for me.  Please forgive my sins, cleanse me from my past, and make me new.  I know Your Son, Jesus died for me.  I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead.  At this very moment, I accept, confess, and proclaim Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior . . . to be Lord of my life from this day forward.  I now have a right relationship with God my Father through this salvation in Jesus. I thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to guide and empower me to do the things that You have planned for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen

Today’s scripture reading: Matthew 8:28-34

28 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way.

29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

30 Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding.

31 So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.”

32 And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.

33 Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.

34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region.
