The Keys

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19

In today’s world, keys are becoming obsolete.  Now there are coded locks made to open by a combination, there are scanning locks that open with a fingerprint or voice recognition.  In the case of my iPhone, it is unlocked by recognizing my face.  If anyone else tries to unlock my phone, it will try and try to recognize them until finally it will shut down because it is programed that way for security.

In today’s verse, Jesus told His disciples that He was giving them the key to unlock the Kingdom of heaven; with that key they were able to bind up/lock heaven and earth and they were able to loose/open heaven and earth.  That key is salvation in our Savior Jesus.  Through Jesus we have access to heaven and all the power of God to come in and change our situations and our lives.

It starts with salvation.  When you begin to recognize the love God has for all people and that He sent His only Son to come and rescue us from an eternity of separation from the Father that created us, you are opening up heaven to come in and change your life and the direction you once were heading.  From that point on, you can open up heaven at any time, simply by talking with your heavenly Father.  He is always available and wants to be in close personal relationship with all His children.  When you release heaven into your circumstances, you are releasing the goodness and the love of God into this physical world.  It is quite an amazing event.

The same is true on the other side of the key.  When you don’t turn things over to God, He is limited in what He can do for you because you have not unlocked the door to His answer to whatever you are going through.  This is not to say that God is not all powerful, but He has limited Himself in this world because He gave it to people when He created them.  He set up the parameters and reaches in when we call to Him and include Him in all we do.

Today I want to encourage you to use the key to heaven by spending time with your Father in heaven.  He loves you and desires to bring good into all areas of live.  However, first you must surrender all areas to His care and trust that He is bringing you through to victory.  Pay attention to the prompts and urges you may sense in your heart and ask Him to make plain and clear the steps and plans He has for you to walk out next.  I also encourage you to lock down the plans of your enemy by making his ideas and thoughts small.  Speak out the Word of God over all your doubts and fears and release the goodness of God’s love by speaking the promises He gave you in His Holy, unchangeable Word. Unlock all that heaven has for you today by inviting your Savior in and speaking the life of God through His holy words.

Today’s scripture reading Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
