He knows your name
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20
After Jesus sent 70 of His disciples out to minister in the surrounding cities, they were so stoked when they came back and reported to Jesus the results of their mission. The passage says they returned with joy and announced that even the demons were subject to them in the name of Jesus. However, Jesus seemed unimpressed with this revelation and tells them what real power looks like. He told them about the power of God casting Satan out of heaven when he rose up and tried to take over. Then He went on to say: What you should really be overjoyed about is that your name is written in heaven and that is where you will spend eternity, not about having authority over evil spirits. If feels like Jesus doesn’t want them to give any credit to the demonic spirits of have any power that isn’t first given to them. I love also how He turned their attention to the things of heaven and what is really important and worth focusing on.
Like many people, the disciples had gotten caught up in the hype of what would seem like supernatural phenomenon, but Jesus clearly points out that the supernatural work that the Father has done to give us a home with Him in heaven is what is most important and what they and all of us should be celebrating and rejoicing in. Jesus told His disciples that day that the greatest supernatural work that is done is getting God’s created people back to Him. Rescuing those who were separated from Him by sin have been brought close to Him today and have a home with Him for all eternity!
That is truly something to rejoice and get excited about. It is the same thing for us today. All our rejoicing and celebrating can and should be that our names are written in God’s book of life!! My name is written in heaven and God knows me personally! He knows you too if you have received His great gift of Salvation and adoption!
Today I want to encourage you, if you have never received God’s great gift of salvation through the sacrifice and blood of Jesus, do it now! If you have, start rejoicing. Don’t let the temporary setbacks and problems of this life bring you down. Rejoice today and every day that your name is written in heaven. You have a home for all eternity and not just any home, a home with the God and Farther Who created, loves and saved you from the destruction of this world.
Pray this prayer today to receive Jesus into your life and the Father will write your name in heaven too. He will come into your life and guide you through every obstacle and struggle you face in this life:
God in heaven, I know I’m a sinner and I need a Savior. I want to turn away from my sinful life to the life You have planned for me. Please forgive my sins, cleanse me from my past, and make me new today. I know Your Son, Jesus died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. At this very moment, I accept, confess, and proclaim Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior . . . to be Lord of my life from this day forward. I now have a right relationship with God my Father through this salvation in Jesus. I thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to guide me and to empower me to accomplish the things You have planned for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen
Today’s Scripture Reading: Luke 10:13-20
13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.
16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
