The Choice is up to You

“Because the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

Have you ever felt invisible in this life or like no one even knows you exist?  Maybe you feel like you slip in and out of crowds unnoticed most of the time.  Maybe you even live your life like you are the only one who knows what you are doing.  The truth is that most people do live that way.  Most people think whatever they are going through in private, no one else knows about it.  No one sees them hurting and no one sees them alone.

Today’s reading is about Zacchaeus.  He was a tax collector, and he was not invisible to most people.  In fact, tax collectors were despised by the Hebrew people and called out when they walked through villages because they were Jewish but working for Rome.  They were also thieves most of them over charged the people so that they could put it into their own pockets and become very rich.  Zacchaeus was not just any ordinary tax collector; he was a chief of tax collectors which meant that he made some money from all the other tax collectors in the region.  He was extremely wealthy and powerful, but not invisible.

When Jesus came to town, Zacchaeus wanted to see him but because he was short, there was no way the crowd would let him get close to Jesus.  He thought that he could climb a tree and be unnoticed by Jesus when he passed by.  Instead, Jesus called him out.  He not only saw Zacchaeus, but He knew who he was and why he was in the tree.  Jesus never addressed any issues such as Zacchaeus being a tax collector or why he was in a tree, He just told Zacchaeus that He was going to His house for dinner.

Needless to say, this changed Zacchaeus life forever.  He returned all that he had stolen from the people x 4 and gave half of what he owned to the poor.  Jesus affirmed Zacchaeus decision and told him that he got saved that day.  He concludes His conversation with Zacchaeus by saying that the reason He came to the world was to save people that are lost.

Jesus is still in the saving business today and if you think that you are invisible and no one sees you, you are wrong.  Jesus does and more than that He loves you.  He came to the world that He created to rescue His created people from His enemy, and He made that available to all by paying the penalty of sin that each one of us own.  Now the choice is yours to receive His payment or reject it.  No matter what you choose, you cannot change the reality that He sees you and He loves you.  Wherever you are in life today, He is there waiting for you to turn and look to Him. His salvation is available to you just like it was for Zacchaeus, but it is up to you to choose it.

Today I want to encourage you to turn in God’s direction.  Reach out to Him with your cares and pain.  He already rescued you 2000 years ago when He took your sin penalty.  Now it is up to you to receive that salvation He so dearly paid for.  The choice is up to you.  Receive His salvation today by praying this prayer from your heart!  Jesus will come into your heart and change your life forever.

God in heaven, I know I’m a sinner and I need a Savior.  I want to turn away from my sinful life to the life You have planned for me.  Please forgive my sins, cleanse me from my past, and make me new today.  I know Your Son, Jesus died for me.  I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead.  At this very moment, I accept, confess, and proclaim Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior . . . to be Lord of my life from this day forward.  I now have a right relationship with God my Father through this salvation in Jesus. I thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to guide me and to empower me to accomplish the things You have planned for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen

Today’s scripture reading: Luke 19:1-10

1 Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.

4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

6 So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.

7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”

8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;

10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
