He is the God of the Living!

For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.” Luke 20:38

Some people, believe in God, but they think His love and grace is only for after you leave this world.  Others believe that God’s Salvation through Jesus is only to secure our future with Him after we die.  However, that is just not the case!  God is the God of right now.  He is the Father of those living in this world right now that have made a place for Him in their life.  In fact, when God spoke to Moses in the Old Testament from the burning bush, He told Moses “I am” to let Moses know that He is the God of right here and now, not the someday, far and away.

In today’s reading, the Sadducees brought a scenario to Jesus about what would happen to a person that was married after they died. This group of religious leaders did not even believe there was life after death, but because they wanted to trap Jesus into giving an answer that would condemn Himself, they posed the question to Him.  Jesus told them they were wrong, in fact He told them they were greatly wrong.  God is not the God of the dead, but for all of us living in the world right now.  When you die, you will go to be with Him in heaven if you know Him personally, but you will be made whole and live with Him for all eternity.

Here are just a few scriptures confirming that He is the God of the living.  The God of the right now and the God, you can trust your life to in these crazy, messed up days that we live in.

Psalm 91:15-16 – He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

Exodus 33:14 – And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Psalms 16:8 – I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Deuteronomy 31:8 – And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Today I want to encourage you to press into the God of your salvation.  His presence is here right now and His Spirit lives on the inside of every born-again believer.  He wants you to know His goodness and He wants you to know He is with you always.  Trust Him today to empower you to overcome every obstacle that comes your way and follow in the direction that He is leading.  He is the God of those living right now and we can share His goodness wherever we are.

Today’s scripture reading: Luke 20:27-39

27 Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

28 saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

29 Now there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and died without children.

30 And the second took her as wife, and he died childless.

31 Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and died.

32 Last of all the woman died also.

33 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife.”

34 Jesus answered and said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.

35 But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

36 nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37 But even Moses showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

38 For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.”

39 Then some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”

40 But after that they dared not question Him anymore.
