Hear His Heart
And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.” John 9:37
Jesus is full of compassion. He was when He walked the earth 2000 years ago and He still is today. He loves people just as His Father loves and in that loving, compassion is poured out. It is especially evident when He touches and heals someone. The blind man in John 9 is no exception. After Jesus sent the man to the pool to wash his eyes, the man did not see Him again until later on after he had been thrown out of the synagogue. Even though the man had just been healed and then reprimanded and put out by the Pharisees, Jesus was there for him. As you read the interaction between Jesus and the man, you can hear the compassion in Jesus’ words and how he wanted the once blind man to know Him personally.
Jesus first invited the man by asking him if he believes in the Son of God. The man responded with: If I can know who He is, I will believe. That is when Jesus revealed Himself personally to the man. The man acknowledged that he was lost in darkness and needed the help of the Savior and then when the Savior was revealed, he quickly believed.
Thank goodness, that is the same love and compassion that Jesus offers to us still today. But there is a difference. He already paid our sin debt and now He not only offers His compassion and healing, He also offers salvation and freedom from the oppression of the enemy. Today, He is asking you: Do you believe in the Son of God? The answer is totally up to you. You can choose to make your encounter with Him the greatest connection in your life, or you can choose to put it off for another day but let me warn you . . . there is no guarantee that you will have another day.
Today I want to encourage you to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life. If you have never received Him as your Lord and Savior, make today the day. If you have invited Him in, but never made the change in the direction you were heading, turn around today and walk toward Him. It is not hard to do, you simply begin to acknowledge Him in all your ways and then follow the direction He points out to you. Pray this prayer today from your heart. Jesus will take your hand and walk out all the days of your life leading you to your blessed and intended purpose.
God in heaven, I know I’m a sinner and I need a Savior. I want to turn away from my sinful life to the life You have planned for me. Please forgive my sins, cleanse me from my past, and make me new today. I know Your Son, Jesus died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. At this very moment, I accept, confess, and proclaim Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior . . . to be Lord of my life from this day forward. I now have a right relationship with God my Father through this salvation in the blood of Jesus. I thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to guide me and to empower me to accomplish the things You have planned for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen
Today’s scripture reading: John 9:35-41
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”
37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”
38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.
39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”
40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
